MATTHEW LEWIS, Partner & Design Director
As the firm’s founding Partner, Matthew has curated LAND’s exciting portfolio of high-end residential, resort, parks, and private island projects in Miami, China, the Caribbean and Central America. Matthew brings extraordinary thinking, sensitivity, and ambition to LAND’s projects - he is a true architect of the land. Matthew’s perspective is holistic, driven by site and environmental context. The result of his creative direction for the planning, design, and development on any architectural project is an intensely profound connection of space with place. Matthew makes architecture materialize from the land. With over 15 years of experience at EDSA, 40NORTH and Raymond Jungles, Matthew has worked and directed noteworthy projects around the world. At EDSA, he was designer for projects including Crosswaters Ecolodge, winner of two National ASLA Honor Awards, Ritz Carlton Properties, Castiglione del Bosco in Italy, to name a few. As Design Director for 40NORTH, Matthew designed and developed several high profile private estates in the Middle East, the One and Only Palm in Dubai, Xanadu Island Resort in Turkey and many private residential projects throughout the American Midwest. After two years working in Kansas City, Matthew was hired as the Senior Designer at Raymond Jungles, where he quickly rose to Studio Design Director. While at RJ, Matthew further honed his detail design expertise and plant knowledge working directly with Raymond on several boutique hotels, public spaces and private residential gardens throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South Florida.
MARSH C. KRIPLEN, Partner
Partner Marsh C. Kriplen has more than 20 years of design, construction and management experience. He has worked in landscape architecture, architecture, water feature design and construction management over the course of his career. He served as Studio Director with Raymond Jungles in Miami and Director of Landscape Architecture with both Robert A M Stern Architects, New York and Delta Fountains, Jacksonville. He is an adjunct professor of Landscape Architecture at Florida International University and at the Cushman School where he currently teaches an architecture elective. This rich professional and academic background enables him to work comfortably with clients from a project’s inception through completion; while his management experience allows him to oversee general project coordination and fulfill our role as Owner's Representative for a number of private and commercial clients. His current philanthropic involvement includes the Bakehouse Art Complex in Miami, where he serves on the Board of Directors.
GERBY MARKS, Operations Director & Project Executive
Gerby imparts international creative intelligence to LAND’s business strategy, implementation, and designs. A Harvard summa cum laude graduate in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and Art & Architecture and a retired Special Operations intelligence analyst, Gerby has over 10 years of experience understanding, analyzing, and cultivating human terrain. She brings multi-faceted professional and deep on-the-ground research experience from Cuba, Spain, the U.K., Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, and Belize to LAND’s approach and process. From London and Madrid’s best art auction houses to counterterrorism missions at Embassies, Gerby excels at identifying best-in-class solutions and smartly conceived opportunities for high profile clients in any location. An M.S. in Sustainable Design from the University of Austin, Texas’ School of Architecture, Gerby bolsters LAND with a broad toolkit of knowledge from Materials Science, Design/Build, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Planning, Preservation, and Ecosystems. She has an eye for the best in international architectural thinking with specific attention to the context of Latin American, Mexican, Middle Eastern and North African contributions to the field. Gerby brings Project Management experience with green home construction, sustainable site design/build, native plant care from Austin, Texas as well as nuanced consulting expertise. Gerby delights in textiles, materials, and sustainably driven sourcing to manage LAND’s exterior living design.
ANDREI BLANCO, Technical Director
Andrei has worked intimately with LAND’s Partner for the past 12 years directing the successful technical and rendering production for construction documents and permitting drawings. A graduate of the Universidad Central, San Jose, Costa Rica, Andrei oversees our Latin America-based production and office. brings continuous oversight and creation of LAND's renderings and 3D model for design packages. Prior to his lead role with LAND, Andrei worked with US-based 40North and Costa Rica-based Vida Design Studio. Andrei’s portfolio includes sophisticated technical work for private residences, restaurants, resorts, private islands, and commercial developments in Miami, Panama, Australia, Costa Rica, Italy, Turkey, and the UAE. Andrei’s expertise includes AutoCAD, Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite, rendering software, as well as grading and hardscape Design
ALINE TOM, Marketing Director
Aline brings full-spectrum design and business development talent. Formerly a Designer for GLR Arquitectos, Project Manager for RENDER Solutions, Business Development Manager for BLOOM MIAMI DESIGN, Partner with Lang +Tom, Senior and Founder of her own firm +Tom, Aline executes creative processes for LAND’s interior and exterior design/build execution as well as marketing for the firm. She received her education at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Mexico and facilitates our Latin America-based production team.
DAYANAH ELOI, Technical Executive & Designer
Dayanah is a graduate from Florida International University earning a Master's in Landscape Architecture. During her studies she developed her graphic design and rendering skills. Her academic work includes regional planning and neighborhood redevelopment projects. Formerly a Landscape Designer at MAKwork and Green Space Strategies where her scope of work ranged from residential, institutional, commercial and hospitality developments in Miami and the Caribbean.
ANDRES ALZATE, Technical Executive & Designer
Andres is LAND’s technical draftsman and designer, bringing 6 years of experience with technical architectural and engineering production to the team. An M.Arch from Florida International University, Andres has strong expertise drafting construction documents for code compliance and brilliant 3D rendering talent for client design packages. Formerly a Design Engineer with Ornare Moveis, an Associate with Sol-Arch, and Port of Miami tunnel draftsman with Nicholson Construction, Andres is talented with AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino and other technical software.
ALTIVO, Canine Surveyor & Environmental Savant
A US-raised purebred hailing from a fine lineage of Andalusian Spanish Water Dogs, Altivo is prodigious at romping the meandering fields of Southern Spain and tenacious with navigating the Atlantic coastal waves, swells, and winds of Miami. At home amidst exquisite terrain, seascape, construction site, and tree nursery alike, Altivo is more than a mascot. He is our best animal asset and most pedigreed on-the-ground surveyor, ever loyal to LAND and our vision of developing richer relations between human and terrain.
